Embee's productions have always been praised by the heads as well as critics in his homecountry of Sweden, North Europe. No matter what the haters might say, Embee's group Looptroop has worked as the embassador of European hip-hop for years, touring places like Africa, Japan hell even Jamaica! One of the main reasons behind this are of course the Troop's political approach that's getting love in every corner of the world but Embee's productions have always been just as important to the groups success. Tellings From Solitaria is Embee's first full album as a solo artist and comes across one of the most anticipated European hip-hop releases in the recent years and as an album that should not be missed by anyone who got any love for their own ears. The first impressions of the album are that it differs from most of the work Embee has done before. Embee's sound has drastically matured and even the first few songs already show that the album boasts many different type of sounds that create a very rich mood for the album. I'd say releasing an album like this is a big risk on the European markets where its more important to look hip-hop than actually sound like it and im sure it takes guts from the artist too. But i don't think Embee cares if his name is on the sale charts or on MTV award nominees and why should he, because Tellings From Solitaria is easilly the best European hip-hop album since Promoe's Long Distance Runner.
But what makes the album so special? It's got soul. It's got enough soul to bitchslap your own mother while you're sleeping and make her go and buy you this for christmas. European hip-hop often gets looked down on because many artists there lack individuality and originality. It's not that European artists are often wack but its because many of them sound recycled versions of their American counterparts. Many times on the album you get the feeling like oh damn and you're forced to move you head to the beat just to notice that Embee takes it to another level in the next few seconds and you end up having your head through your neighbours roof explaining how you can't be held responsible for the damage. Wasn't Me It Was Embee!!!
It's hard to find anything negative to say about this release even with great effort. It's well executed and keeps your attention from beginning to the end what more can you ask for an album to do, especially when some of the beats are on par with even the best productions from such legends as DJ Premier or Pete Rock. Embee for president!
