While receiving the copy of Dabo's new mini album 6 bullets, i was instantly reminded of the disapointment of Dabo's previous effort the Diamond album. Even though Diamond barely surpassed the quality of Dabo's second album the Hitman it was still pretty much of the same we have heard from Dabo ever since he joined the ranks of Defjam Japan 4 years ago. Putting the past aside and jumping to the present that is 6 Bullets, the fans of Dabo are sure to find what they are looking for... minus a few unpleasant surprises.

The album succeeds by delivering what Dabo is known for as a solo artist, bounce music combined with clever but mostly unoriginal punchlines. For listeners who have followed Dabo's career since the beginning there is however not much new to discover on this release, except for the last track where Dabo tries to descend to the world of singing but his landing is far from succesful. Flow-wise Dabo shines through-out the whole album except on the horrible REDRUM which sounds more like nursery rhymes or goats having sex to a beat rather than delivering the intended dancehall sound.

More than anything else the release suffers from bad and unoriginal production (especially from DJ's Yakko, Watarai & Romero SP) that has haunted Dabo's solo career after the release of his classic debut album the Platinum Tongue. It is sad to see the direction of the man's career especially when its evident that Dabo has more skills than most of the people in the industry but somehow it never finds it's way to his own releases. It's always sad when a 90 second intro to the album is actually the best material included, especially if you have wasted your hard earned money to buy it. For hardcore Dabo fans only.
