Azzurro's debut for those who only know his works on Mellow Yellow might come as a surprise. Always known for his old school drum driven beats, Azzurro with his debut album Il Mare Azzurro takes his listeners to fresh, versatile and unforgettable experience that goes far beyond your average instrumental hip-hop album.

The album relies heavily on old school drums combined with space travelling sounds that mix up so well that you can really get into the world Azzurro has created for this cd. It's hard to come across an album in today's hip-hop that both innovates and stays consistent from the start to the finish with so much versatility especially in this type of release (instrumental hip-hop).

Not all credit goes to Azzurro himself though since the album features a wide range of his friends taking charge of the rapping/scratching/instruments side of this release. The end result is both abstract and rich with colour that blends many different cultures into his music. Underrated since the start of his career, Azzurro proves with his debut that he has developed originality that the whole world of hip-hop will hopefully cherish in the future as a rare talent.

Azzurro started out as a producer/dj on the old school japanese hip-hop group Mellow Yellow but left the crew in the beginning of 2001. Pursued a solo career after leaving the group and most recently formed a new crew ILL Suono with his old friend Hashim B.
